Description
Sprinkler wire is specially engineered to carry 24 VAC electricity from a sprinkler controller to sprinkler valves and valve manifolds. Each insulated strand has an 18-gauge wire in it and the strands are further protected with a UV-resistant jacket. Sprinkler wire is suitable for underground burial and withstands water and freezing. Use wire cutters to strip the wire from each strand. The white wire is the ground or common wire which connects from one lead of each valve solenoid back to the controller’s “C” terminal. Each multi-colored wire connects from a single solenoid to a zone or “station” terminal of the controller.
A 5-strand bundle powers up to four valves to the controller with the fifth strand being the common wire. A 7-strand bundle powers up to six valves. To protect wire from possible corrosion, you should use waterproof wire connectors at all valve solenoids and at any place where you are splicing wires and moisture could be present. For outdoor irrigation use with cold water only.
