Frequently asked questions

Some questions and answers are automatically generated.

How difficult is it to install this motor assembly?

Installation is very straightforward. Many customers report completing the swap in just a few minutes with basic tools, often needing only a screwdriver. Several reviewers specifically note the process involves removing a few screws and transferring spray wands from the old motor.

How long do the plastic gears typically last?

While the motor works well when new, several reviewers report that plastic gears wear out over time and can eventually cause the sprinkler to stop traveling or skip. Some customers mention needing to replace the assembly after a few seasons of use, though actual lifespan varies.

Will this restore my broken sprinkler to working condition?

Yes, for most customers. The overwhelming majority of reviews report that replacing the motor assembly gets their traveling sprinkler running and traveling like new again, restoring full functionality after the original motor failed.

What if there's an issue with my order or warranty?

Orbit's customer service is widely praised across reviews. Customers consistently report excellent support when dealing with problems or warranty claims—though one reviewer noted that having your receipt helps expedite the process.

Does this assembly come with all necessary hardware for installation?

Yes. Multiple reviewers specifically mention that screws are included with the motor assembly, eliminating the need to source additional fasteners for installation.

What components are prone to breaking on this motor assembly?

The most commonly mentioned failure points are the plastic gears (which wear over time), the plastic top nut joining the gear drive, and the water hose connection point. Some reviewers have experienced the barbed fitting pulling out of the plastic housing over time.

Warranty Replacement

The purchase was a warranty replacement which I was glad Orbit covered. The original part cracked/split at the collar where the rotating arms t-fitting screws into. The support I received was great and I believe it wa due to being able to provide copy of receipt and a picture if the cracked/split collar. Although I purchased about 5 years ago, spelunker had only been used a few times. I hope the replacement lasts a long time.

That water is not only my grass

That water is not only my grass, but the plants that I have in planters around the yard saves me a couple hours of watering each day. I love it.

Your warranty is the best

Your warranty is the best. I have two Orbits. One had quit traveling and you graciously sent the motor assembly to get it going again. My yard would be a disaster from hot Texas summers without the convenience of these traveling sprinklers.

I would like to say thank you for your time spent helping me with my problem

I would like to say thank you for your time spent helping me with my problem. I initially called to see about a fix and there wasn't one so your representative was able to send a new assembly.

Fine motor, but.....why can't I buy parts only?

Fine motor, with wheels, identical to the LR Nelson motor that comes without wheels for the same price.
What I would like to see, is the availability to buy parts like we used to be able to with LR Nelson before Bosch and then Fiskars bought them. What fails, and should be available as sets: 1: The worm & worm gear, 2: The final drive gears, 3: The lower housing.
