HOW TO WINTERIZE A SPRINKLER SYSTEM



Winterizing your sprinkler system is vital to keep it running correctly and avoid costly repairs. Here are some simple, basic winterizing steps.

Step 1


Shut off main water supply to sprinklers

Begin by shutting off the main water valve for the sprinkler system.  Also, if you have a stop-and-waste valve (or other manual valve) on your system, open them to drain as well.

Step 2


Open end cap or ball valve
Open end cap or ball valve
Next, drain your manifolds by first removing the end cap or opening the ball valve (if applicable) and loosening the bleed screws on each valve.  We also recommend loosening the solenoids on each valve.

Step 3


Loosen bleed screws and solenoids
Loosen bleed screws and solenoids
Loosen bleed screws and solenoids to allow air into the valves.
