North Salt Lake, UT (April 17, 2008) --Orbit Irrigation Products, Inc. is pleased to announce that Stuart Eyring, Executive Vice President & Chief Conservation Officer, and Tres Wangsgaard, Product Development Engineering Manager, have passed the required Irrigation Association (IA) Certification Examination to become Certified Water Conservation Managers-Landscape (CWCM-L).

Eyring and Wangsgaard are the first irrigation professionals in Utah to achieve this certification. According to Eyring, “As Certified Water Conservation Managers we are able to assess site needs, water availability and use, and then identify and implement system upgrades and modifications to control water usage in the most efficient manner possible.” Adds Wangsgaard, “This certification demonstrates our commitment to achieving our company mission of water conservation through product innovation and best irrigation practices.”

Eyring sees the role of the Certified Water Conservation Manager as key to achieving per-capita reduction in water reduction. The issue of water conservation is especially relevant in Utah where, according to the Division of Water Resources, Utahns consume about 293 gallons per person per day, second nationally only to Nevada. “Outdoor water use accounts for 67% of total residential water use. Most people don’t realize that in a typical backyard each sprinkler is putting out a whopping three gallons of water every minute. The fact is that, for many homeowners, smarter landscape design and application of water can allow them to cut their outdoor water usage by 30, 40 even 50 percent without any sacrifice to lawn, plants or trees.”

Water conservation managers are irrigation professionals whose principal business is the evaluation, operation, management and improvement of irrigation systems to achieve the highest level of water conservation possible. They are involved in discussion with the end user regarding system use, particularly as it relates to scheduling, maintenance concerns and water conservation.
