Orbit Irrigation Products, Inc. Interviewing Style

Back to Employment Section

As our Blueprint for Success states, having the right Associates is one of our core values. We intend to recruit and retain the best. With that in mind, we would like to provide you with some tools to help you do your best during the recruiting process.

What can you expect at an interview - written tests, situational questions, behavioral questions, or brain teasers? We understand that you are not an interviewing expert and we would rather you not be. We understand you may be nervous. Being nervous is okay, but being nervous and unprepared is a different story. Each hiring manager has his or her own interviewing style so the exact nature of your interview cannot be predicted. However, we can give you some advice based on past experience.

If your qualifications meet our criteria, we will be contacting you to begin the interviewing process. Depending on the position for which you apply, you may have a phone interview, panel interview, or one-on-one meeting with the hiring manager. During any of these conversations you can expect to be asked some behavioral-type questions.

Behavioral interviewing is based on the principle that a person's previous experience will be repeated. If you can tell your interviewer about specific issues you have dealt with in the past, you will give that person some idea of what you are capable of doing for them.

Behavioral-based questions usually begin with, "Tell me about a time….” When you are asked this, the interviewer wants to hear a story with specific details about a time you performed a function or process. Explaining your story in the STAR format is an easy way to keep your answer concise and effective. First describe the situation. In essence, set the stage for the rest of the "story." You then explain the tasks or actions you took in light of the situation. Last, but not least, tell your interviewer the results of your actions.

S = Situation
T = Tasks
A = Actions
R = Results

Don't be offended or concerned if the interviewer asks for clarification or digs a little deeper into your story. They are usually just trying to get more information about where your skills lie.

We are committed to finding the right person for the job, so the process may take several weeks to complete. You may be asked to come back for follow-up interviews. Along the way you can expect to hear something by phone or email about the status of the position. If you have any questions about the process please feel free to contact our recruiting office.
